The Good News Course is designed to be an introduction to the truths of Christianity. The course consists of 11 short videos, each explaining a different aspect of the gospel. Written to accompany the videos is a short book that is an aid to thinking through the teaching of each episode.
When creating the course, our ultimate goal was to glorify the one true and living God, without whom there would be no gospel for us to proclaim. This course is designed to be an aid to those who are seeking the truth about God and salvation, explaining the basics of Christianity, and encouraging them to come under the preaching of the word of God in a Bible believing local church. We also sought to make the course in such a way as it would be a tool for such local churches and their members in their evangelism and teaching of the gospel to those who have not heard before.
The Good News Course, was a project created by a group of members from Trinity Grace Church, Ramsbottom. Our desire was to create an evangelistic resource firmly grounded in the truths of the Bible and rooted in the doctrines presented in the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith. As such, in the creation and distribution of the project we worked in association with Broken Wharfe, a distributor of confessional baptist resources. From the writing of the initial scripts, throughout filming and all the way to the final stages of production and distribution we have prayerfully sought to set forth the good news of the gospel in a way that is easy to understand and will appeal to a range of audiences.
Essentially, within reason, you can use the course how you want. This is partially why we haven’t produced a leader’s book. Here are some thoughts and suggestions as to how you might want to use it:
A Good News Course meeting
Invite a number of people to partake in the course, with Christian friends involved at your church building. You can do this via personal invite or a leaflet drop. In such sessions it is always useful to have some church members present to aid in the discussion.
A suggested agenda for such a meeting would be: Introduction; prayer; watch the episode video; read the Bible passages; go through the questions for discussion to drive home the message.
One of the advantages of the videos being freely available without cost on the good news website, is that if someone misses a session, they can catch up what they missed online.
One to one in members’ homes
Some may not be willing to come to a bigger meeting in a church building. This course can be used in a similar way to the above, but with a Christian going through the course with friends and family in their own home.
Give out the book to interested people
At events, through door to door witness or in personal conversations, the books can be given out to folk, who can then work through the videos and booklet on their own.
Parents teaching their children
The understandable nature of the teaching means that it could be used by parents to teach their children in their own home.
Children’s/youth work
A church could take a youth group through these videos and the book, as part of their regular ministry.
Flexibility
As the course uses a physical book and online videos, you could use either independently of each other – e.g. just use videos at a coffee morning – or e.g. give out the book as merely an evangelistic book (as the transcript of the videos are in it).
In short it is a tool designed to be used by churches and church members to bring the gospel to others, but its online presence means that it may be used to reach people who have no contact with a church.
